Tips On How To Properly Use The Internet

The internet is a vast place, and it may easily become overwhelming to someone who isn’t well-versed in the tool that lies before them.  There’s more to using the internet than just pointing and clicking on buttons and pictures.

To get what you really need from the internet, you have to understand a little about how it all works.  If you’re having trouble finding what you need online, take a moment to look over these helpful tips on how to properly use the internet.

Learn a little about the words you use

The words you use make all the difference when you are searching for something using a search engine like Google or Bing.  Phrasing the question you ask the right way can prove tricky.  If you don’t find the answers you seek on your first search, you may need to reword the question.

Understanding a little about search engine optimization will give you a little inside knowledge on the matter.  Search engines work on an algorithm that sorts and disperses results based on the various words you use and the order in which you use them.  When you shift the word usage a bit, you’ll get different results.

Take advantage of tab browsing

Using tabs to separate the information you find during your online search will help you keep the results sorted.  When you’re reading an interesting article, for instance, you can open a curious link in a new tab.

Opening interesting links in a new tab will allow you to keep reading the article, and you can explore what was in the link when you’re through.  If you hold the Ctrl button and click on the link, it will automatically open up in a new tab.

You don’t need to type the “www”

When you’re entering a web address in the search bar, you don’t have to type the whole thing to find the website.  The “https://” and the “www” aren’t necessary.

You can even skip on typing the “.com” if the website ends in that particular suffix.  For example, instead of typing out https://www.google.com/, you can just type “google” and press Ctrl+Enter to go to the website.

Know about browser shortcuts

If you dig into the various keyboard shortcuts you can use while browsing the web, you can make your time online more efficient.  For instance, you can press Alt+D to instantly jump the cursor to the address bar.

You can press Ctrl+B to quickly open up your bookmarked page list.  Knowing these shortcuts can really give you an edge when you are researching with a time crunch.

Try out other browsers

Most of the time, your computer will automatically use Internet Explorer upon purchase.  However, you don’t have to use the standard browser.

There are other options that may even give you more accurate results when you’re searching for information online.  Try exploring with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox instead.
